Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag

Thank you, Dora @ Swift Coffee for this tag, everyone go check her out! October is coming to and end, so what better way to end it than by doing a Halloween tag, right?

Anthony, the creator, has provided the template for the tag which I give major props to because it made the tag significantly easier to do and I’ve been wondering if anyone was ever going to do this with book tags, so thank ye, thank ye.

Rules:

  • Answer all prompts.

Witch
A Magical Character or Book.
Matilda! Matilda was the first character to introduce me to the world of books and magic and she was the first ever character I, and most book lovers, related to.

img_2246

Werewolf
The Perfect Book to Read at Night.
My Cousin Rachel. It was difficult to put down and I remember reading into the crack of dawn because that’s how thrilling it was! The ending will shock you.

img_2247

Frankenstein
A Book that Truly Shocked You.
Speaking of shock, I will go with the entire A Song of Ice and Fire series starting with Game of Thrones because I remember that infamous window scene was probably the most shocking thing that I had ever read until, of course, the Red Wedding. *shudders*

img_2248

The Devil
A Dark, Evil Character.
Brady Hartsfield from the Mr Mercedes series. Evil, absolute evil, the things he derives pleasure from… I tried to watch the show, but it took the book to another level and I just couldn’t bring myself to continue because that’s how twisted Brady is.

img_2249

Grim Reaper
A Character that Should Never Have Died.
Finnick Odair… that ripped me apart. And Shireen Baratheon from Game of Thrones because she has that Anne of Green Gables purity of heart and soul that made it 10x worse.

img_2250

Zombie
A Book that Made You “Hungry” for More.
Gone with the Wind. I would like more Scarlett O’Hara please.

img_2251

Gargoyle
A Character that You Would Protect at All Cost.
Goldenboi Jaime Lannister (be warned that I may be using the below meme in the near future a whole damn lot) and Sansa Stark. Bonus: Ron Weasley (he’s recently become my favourite in the trio) and Luna Lovegood.

img_2240

Vampire
A Book that Sucked the Life Out of You.
The Secret History was a whole load of misery. You keep waiting for a trickle of happiness and it doesn’t come. Not once. Not even a little bit.

img_2252

Ghost
A Book that Still Haunts You.
The Book Thief. That ending was devastating because of a certain runner who was my favourite character.

img_2253

Demon
A Book that Really Scared You.
I don’t read horror books, but when I get around to reading The Shining like our sweetheart Joey, I will put it in the freezer.

img_2254

Skeleton
A Character You Have a Bone to Pick With.
Y’all know I have a bone to pick with Hermione (and Rowling). Bro, if Ron was my little sister, and I found out that her friend physically and violently attacked her because he felt entitled to her/permanently disfigured her face for life for choosing our mother over a club, well… well, I’m getting my own kind of birds ready.

Oppugno

Mummy
A Book You Would Preserve Throughout Time.
Oh the Places You’ll Go, my favourite and go-to pick-me-up.

img_2256

Creepy Doll
A Cover too Scary to Look At.
There are some truly terrifying covers, but I’m also mindful of the fact that one day I might have to go through this post and what if I have to go through it during the night and it keeps me awake? So, I’m choosing a less scary one (and my own sanity). Let’s go for IT by Stephen King.

  1. Fun tag! IT has a fantastic cover. I like both of them really I think Pennywise is just is a great horror aesthetic 🙂 And oh Jaime, one of my many book loves. Is it weird that I would both protect him at all costs yet totally think his story is ultimately (and should be) a tragedy?

    1. The grin Pennywise has on the cover is petrifying… and, you know what? I think none of us Goldenboi fans are in denial that Jaime will meet a tragic ending, I hope he gets a heroic and knightly ending, that’s the ending he deserves. Now, let me go and cry into my pillow … 😔

  2. Finnick 😥 I was thinking of rereading the series next year. But reliving my boy Finnick’s death again? Nah, I’m good.
I still have to read My Cousin Rachel! I know nothing about it which I think may be a good thing when I eventually read it. Have you seen any of the adaptations? Are they good??
Thank goodness you didn’t pick the super creepy cover of IT!!! Because it’s the middle of the night as I read your post so I would have had guaranteed nightmares!! Omg!

    1. Rereading Hunger Games to experience Finnick dying again… oo, Yeah, that’s a no, for sure. It is really sad that Katniss started her journey for Primrose and in the end… man, that was a lot. I have a little sister and I felt her pain. 💔

The book starts off really slowly… like really slowly, so I have to worn you about that. When Rachel arrives though, wow, that woman is hella charming. Rachel Weisz was very good, and the ending was at least a little happier than the original.. but it is very dreary, so I can’t know for sure if you’ll enjoy it.

Pahahaha, my random act of kindness is saving people from having nightmares. Good thing, because for real, if it’s the last thing you see at night, best believe you might be dreaming about it. *shudders*

    1. It was so heartbreaking, but I guess Suzanne Collins wanted to pack a punch and Finncik is so well loved… Primrose being killed after all Katniss’s efforts to protect her, all that was so pointless… but then I guess it was to make the choice for Katniss and Peeta get together easier. I mean they were better endgame than boring Gale anyway, but did Prim have to die in the process for it to happen 😭

      1. I knowwwwww!! Prim just dying on us right after Finnick that’s too much! I never liked Katniss and Gale it just seemed weird. I don’t know why authors always like to ruin friendships between girls and boys by making one fall in love with the other! I mean COME ON I wish I had my boy best friends with me unfortunately they are all round the world but where I am and trust me that isn’t what normally happens in real life!

        1. Oo, damn, i didn’t actually think of it like that… so cool that you noticed it! They’re friends… and it would have been great if we saw a friendship and nothing more because that is more realistic! Like you, I have boy mates and there’s no other kind of attraction there (thankfully!). But I guess she wanted the love triangle drama lol… it gets the readers talking after all.

          1. I do understand the need to capture the reader’s attention but I always see a pattern about friendships between Boys and Girls in books that’s probably the one thing I kinda get annoyed by when I read a book. Meh I get over it quickly though I mean you can never be mad at a good book for long haha 🙂

    1. The Book Thief is amazing! I have a feeling you’ll enjoy it, but do get a lot of handkerchiefs ready because there will be some parts that will literally rip your soul apart. 😭 (but I hope you enjoy it, soul ripping aside!)
